March Service Project

Family Lent and Holy Week

Projects:

During this Lenten season we seek to grow closer to God and to turn away from sin into the arms of our loving God.

*Hear and follow God's call

*Take time to pray and seek God's guidance in our lives.

*Turn more fully to God which includes treating our neighbors with love through acts of justice, compassion and service.

*Take time to share God's love through acts of service and justice.

*Renew our belief in the Easter promise that we share in Jesus' Resurrection.

There are three traditional ways we can grow closer to God during Lent - by praying, by serving/almsgiving and by fasting.  Praying nourishes our spirits, fasting teaches us about sacrifice and works of service (almsgiving) enlarge our hearts as we serve the needs of others.  While these practices are always interconnected we will be focusing on service and almsgiving this month.  We will not be having a group service project this month because we would like you to spend time with your family during this Holy season of Lent and Holy Week.  There are several projects in the packet your youngest child brought home this month for you as a family to complete.

If you would like to take part in some outside service projects here are some suggestions:

1. Donate to one of the parish Church food shelves.

2. Donate or volunteer at the local food shelf, Valley Outreach.  Their website is valleyoutreachmn.org.  They are looking for volunteers to help at the food shelf and Dawns closet.  For food shelf contact Cara McLain and for Dawn's closet contact Beth Taverna at 430-2739.

3. contact a local nursing home to set up a time to ask if they need volunteers to visit or play games with the residents.
