Catechism

of the

Catholic Church

Course 1: The Profession of Faith

(the Creed)

March 2, 2010 - June 22, 2010

Church of St. Mary (Religious Education Center)

This is an intensive 17-week course on the Church's Creed, the first in a series of four courses on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, in this case on Part 1 of the Catechism.

There is no need to register for this course; just show up on Tuesday, March 2, and as often as possible on the following 16 evenings.  In preparation for the first class, please read in advance paragraphs 1-25.

There is no charge for this course; the only cost will be the purchase of a copy of the Catechism (paperback $15, hardback $25).

These classes on the Catechism will be taught by a team of individuals under the direction of Buzz Kriesel and Thomas Loome, assisted by Jerry Buchman, Tom Giebel, Brad Lindberg, Christopher Moosbrugger, Marlay Smith and Don Wessel.

Father Michael Miller, pastor of the Churches of St. Mary and St. Michael, has strongly requested that classes on the Catechism continue to be available to his parishioners.  He will himself teach a class occasionally as will Father Jack Donahue, Robert Valit and Randal Kasel.

The classes will, of course, be open to both men and women; all classes will be taught on Tuesday evenings in the Religious Ed building at St. Mary's.

Finally, men and women who have already completed the full cycle of classes on the Catechism (a total of 49 classes) are strongly urged to take the classes again, especially if it's been some years since they last attended classes.  A re-reading of the Catechism is very beneficial, even exciting.

"What ought we to do?  How does our lfie find its proper course?  What gives us and the world as a whole a future worth living?  Because the Catechism deals ith these questions, it reaches beyond the merely intramural concerns of theology or of the Church to touch everyone."  Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI)
